Land Conservancy Secures 750 Acres for Future Toro Creek Park

The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County has taken a major step in land preservation and public access by acquiring 750 acres from Chevron, marking the first phase of a larger project to create Toro Creek Park. This planned county park will stretch from Del Mar Park in Morro Bay through Alva Paul Canyon, providing a significant recreational space for residents and visitors.

The newly acquired land, previously used as a petroleum storage and transportation site, has remained largely untouched for decades. With this purchase, the Conservancy aims to restore the area, preserve its natural habitat, and open it to the public for outdoor activities. Plans for the park include hiking trails, biking paths, and nature access points, with long-term goals of tent and RV camping accommodations.

This acquisition is part of a three-phase project that will eventually secure 1,800 acres for the park. The next phase is set to add another 750 acres by 2030, expanding conservation efforts and further enhancing outdoor recreation opportunities. The project represents a collaborative effort between conservationists, local authorities, and the community to protect San Luis Obispo County’s natural beauty while creating much-needed public access to open space.
