Q: How do I contact local Cayucos government offices and services?
A: Cayucos is an unincorporated town within San Luis Obispo County. Therefore, we do not have a city government and fall under the jurisdiction of the County. You may reach County government offices by starting here: https://www.slocounty.ca.gov/
Q: How do I purchase a plaque on the Cayucos Pier?
A: New plaque requests can be directed to the Cayucos Lions’s Club.
Q: How do I submit an application for the July 4th parade?
A: The July 4th parade is managed by the Cayucos Lion’s Club.
Q: How do I plan an event on the beach or at the Cayucos Vets Hall?
A: Reach out to the SLO County Parks and Recreation department for beach permit information at https://slocountyparks.com/day-use-parks/cayucos-beach/. The Cayucos Vets Hall is currently closed for refurbishment. Follow news and progress here: https://www.restorecayucosvetshall.org/.
Q: Does Cayucos have a long-term parking garage or lot?
A: The Cayucos Chamber of Commerce does not manage or enforce parking in town. Within the town of Cayucos, parking is all short-term and any vehicle left longer than 72 hours may be ticketed and towed. Refer to posted hours. You may be able to find long-term parking in nearby cities, such as San Luis Obispo, Atascadero, or Paso Robles.
Q: Can I have a bonfire on the beach?
A: Bonfires are not permitted anywhere south of the pier. For information on bonfire restrictions north of the pier, contact SLO County Parks https://slocountyparks.com/day-use-parks/cayucos-beach/.
Q: Are dogs permitted on Cayucos beaches?
A: Yes, dogs are permitted and leash laws apply. Help us keep Cayucos beaches free of pet waste by cleaning up after your pet. Dog waste bags are provided at public beach entrances, courtesy of the Lioness Club “Mutt Mitts” program. Learn more at http://cayucoslioness.org/projects. The beach between Cayucos and Morro Bay is referred to as “dog beach”…continue to check with postage signage for beach regulations outside of the Cayucos downtown and residential areas.
Q: What regulations apply to vendors setting up in town during events?
A: Our Chamber organizes several events in town. In doing so, we obtain permits from the county, which allow us to place vendors on our public roads. There are also events which are organized by non-Chamber affiliated groups. No vendor may operate any temporary booth outside of permitted boundaries of any event. You may direct questions to SLO County or contact our Chamber board using the form on this page.
Q: Is my gift to the Chamber tax-deductible?
A: This one is complex and we have to advise you to contact a tax professional for exact details in your situation. The general answer is no…but sometimes there are circumstances that may impact your tax situation. Chambers of Commerce are classified as non-profit 501(c)(6) organizations…we are member-based nonprofit orgs. Unlike 501(c)(3) organization gifts and write-offs you might be familiar with, 501(c)(6) orgs don’t have the same tax situation. If you are giving as a business, consider becoming a “sponsoring member" (your membership fees may be considered a tax deduction) and/or consider advertising opportunities that may qualify as a business expense. Again, we encourage you to verify your situation with your tax team. Visit the IRS website for additional guidance or send us an email with questions.
